Huge Vampire Diaries news: The CW is officially developing a spinoff for the Thursday hit and you’re going to have a chance to see the pilot.

After years of rumors about extending the supernatural franchise, The CW has decided to launch a backdoor pilot for a spinoff within the show’s current fourth season. Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec will write the episode and serve as showrunner on the new project if it earns a series order.

The story centers around the original family of vampires and stars Joseph Morgan (Klaus). In the episode, Klaus “returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans — a town he helped build centuries ago — and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel. Phoebe Tonkin, who plays sexy werewolf Hayley on TVD, is also set to star. The episode airs April 25. The working title of the spinoff is The Originals.

Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also serve as executive producers. Vampire Diaries showrunner Kevin Williamson, who also has his upcoming Fox show The Following, is not involved with the spinoff. The show is produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.

Reign, from CBS TV Studios, charts Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue. Reign joins another CW pilot that is set in a kingdom, the Hunger Games-esque The Selection.

Oxygen, an alien drama in the vein of District 9, about an epic romance between a human girl and an alien boy when he and eight others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school 10 years after they landed on Earth and were consigned to an internment camp. hails from Space Floor TV’s Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg and Olé Prods’ Richard Shepard, Sean Furst and Bryan Furst. It was written by Averill (The Good Wife). All will exec produce the CBS TV Studios project, based on a format developed by Daniel Gutman of Pow Wow and Spanish producer Isla Producciones.

The Hundred is set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. A spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet. The project is based on upcoming Alloy books written by Kass Morgan and published by Little, Brown. Warner Bros TV, which owns Alloy Entertainment, is producing, with Rothenberg and Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo executive producing.

Written/exec produced by Phil Klemmer based on the cult British series, exec produced by Julie Plec and Greg Berlanti and directed/exec produced by Danny Cannon, Tomorrow People is about several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution and work together to defeat the forces of evil. Pellegrino, repped by Domain and Framework, will play Dr. Jedikiah Price, an evolutionary biologist committed to containing the threat posed by the “Tomorrow People,” whom he believes to be a grave danger to the human race.

CW Cancels '90210'; Announces It Will End After this Season

The CW has announced that this season of 90210, its fifth will be at last and that this season's season finale in May will also be its series finale.


February 28, 2013 (Burbank, CA) ? After five seasons of new loves, old flames and shocking betrayals, the stars of 90210 will bid farewell to the world-famous zip code, it was announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW. With seven original episodes left to air, the show will sign off with a series finale on Monday, May 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET).

“The CW has had five great seasons with America’s favorite zip code, 90210,” said Pedowitz. “I’d like to thank the talented cast, producers, and crew for all their hard work and dedication to the series. We are very proud of the West Beverly High alumni.”

During this final season, the characters put their relatively carefree days at West Beverly High behind them and launched into adulthood, with only their friendships to lean on. The series stars Shenae Grimes as Annie Wilson, Tristan Wilds as Dixon Wilson, AnnaLynne McCord as Naomi Clark, Jessica Stroup as Silver, Michael Steger as Navid Shirazi, Jessica Lowndes as Adrianna Tate-Duncan and Matt Lanter as Liam Court.

90210 is produced by CBS Television Studios with executive producers Patti Carr (“Life Unexpected,” “Private Practice”) and Lara Olsen (“Life Unexpected,” “Private Practice”).
